Autumn is Coming!

– and we look forward to bringing out the cozy wool sweater, lighting candles, and snuggling up under a blanket with a warm cup of cocoa.

Just as much, we look forward to the trees changing colors, picking berries in the wilderness, discovering new food at restaurants, going on road trips on weekends, and hunting for the northern lights.

Go Northern Lights Hunting!

In September, the northern lights season starts in Bodø & Salten, and if you are lucky enough to witness it, you will have a magnificent experience. It leaves everyone in awe, whether you have lived in the north your whole life or are seeing it for the first time.

For the best chance to experience the northern lights, we recommend booking a tour with a local guide. They know exactly where and when to take you for the best view.

If you choose to go on your own, there are some things you should keep in mind. Here are our tips:

  1. Ensure it is completely dark and clear weather (there should be no clouds). Late in the evening is often best in the fall, even though it gets dark earlier.
  2. Go to a location outside the city where you can look north – it gives you the best chance.
  3. Light from the car or flashlight may be enough to prevent you from seeing the northern lights. So turn it off.
  4. You can find the northern lights forecast here.
