National Parks in Salten

The Best of Norwegian Nature

Láhko and Junkerdal are known for their remarkable alpine flora and excellent fishing opportunities.

Saltfjellet–Svartisen National Park is home to abundant wildlife and Svartisen, Norway’s second-largest glacier.

In Sjunkhatten National Park, families will find easily accessible hiking trails, picnic and campfire areas, and nature experiences close to towns and villages.

The national parks of Salten are protected landscapes of exceptional natural value. Facilities are intentionally limited in many areas to preserve the wilderness and wildlife.

Here, you’ll experience landscapes shaped by glaciers, climate and generations of people living alongside nature. These are places that deserve to be protected so future generations can enjoy them too.

By planning ahead and exploring responsibly, you can experience these extraordinary landscapes while helping to protect what makes them so special.

The Nordland National Park Centre in Saltdal is the visitor centre for the national parks of Salten. Through exhibitions, art and local stories, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the region’s landscapes, wildlife and the people who have lived here for generations.
