1. Midnight Sun Hiking

2. Northern Lights Hunting

The Northern Lights season is from September to April, making Bodø & Salten an ideal destination for northern lights hunting. A visit during these months can not be done without a northern lights hunting experience.

3. Experience Saltstraumen – The World’s Strongest Maelstrom

A visit to Bodø isn’t complete without experiencing Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest tidal current. Witness massive whirlpools as the tides change, creating this impressive natural phenomenon. Saltstraumen is also one of the best places in Norway for snorkling and diving, offering a rich marine ecosystem teeming with life.

4. Walk on Arctic Beaches

Bodø & Salten are home to some of the most stunning white sandy beaches in Norway – often with crystal-clear, turquoise waters that look straight out of the tropics.

Walk barefoot on Mjelle Beach, Bøsanden Beach in Steigen, or Langsanden on Sandhornøy and experience the surreal contrast of Arctic waters and soft sand. Just be prepared – the water is chilly!

5. Explore the Salten Region

Beyond Bodø, the Salten region is filled with untouched nature, charming islands, and dramatic mountain peaks.

Visit the newly opened Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum for contemporary art from the North, catch concerts and performing arts at Svømmehallen Scene, or explore Bodø’s street art that turns the city into an open-air gallery.

At Kjerringøy Trading Post, time seems to stand still in a beautifully preserved 19th-century trading post, while the Jekt Trade Museum tells the story of the legendary ships that connected Northern Norway to the world.
