- GILDESKÅL CHURCH SITE
Situated by the sea right outside Inndyr, a historical medieval stone church tell stories from the 12th century. Join a tour with knowledgeable guides to learn more about the poet Elias Blix or have a closer look in the church. The vicarage hosts a small shop and cafe where you can buy local produce and sit down with a cup of coffee and pastry. Open during summer season from June 13th to August 15th 2020.

Lahko National park has a unique geology that has created caves, cracks and fascinating formations. In the summer there are marked trails, you may hike from Gildeskål to Fykantrappa in Meløy.

- HIKING TO SANDHORNET
Sandhornet is a landmark in this area and also a great hiking trip to the peak 993 metres. From the top you have amazing views Southwards to Helgeland, the islands in west or Lofoten islands in the North.

- LANGSANDEN BEACH AT SANDHORNØY
It might be one of Norway’s most beautiful sandy beaches, with over 2 kilometers of beach on the island Sandhornøy. Parking and service building with toilets and shower are available. The art project «SALT» was arranged here in 2014 & 2015.

- COASTAL FORT AT ARNØYENE
The coastal fort was one of 13 forts in the German defense «Festung Bodø», established in 1941-42. The coastal fort is found 6 km North from the ferry pier at Sørarnøy, here you’ll find original canons, bunkers and remains from the camp. Digital tour is available.

Along the Norwegian scenic route Helgelandskysten you might want to stop by Ureddplassen, a war memorial with a beautiful terrace facing the sea and a wave-shaped toilet beautifully lit in the dark.

Travel to Gildeskål
Gildeskål Municipality is located just South of Bodø, where you can find an airport, railway station and a harbour for the Coastal route Hurtigruten.
Arriving with car or bicycle
You arrive Gildeskål by car or bike along the Norwegian scenic route Helgelandskysten, FV17. There is plenty of opportunities to explore our area from the main road, take the route towards Inndyr or Sandhornøya to see more of the islands. The islands are connected with car ferry or a smaller passenger ferry.
A car ferry goes between Sund (Inndyr) to Horsdal (Sandhornøy) and Sørarnøy.
A local boat route goes between the islands Sandhornøy, Sørarnøy, Sørfugløy, Fleinvær (Sørvær and Mevær) and Bodø.
The Nordland express (NEX) sailing between Bodø to Sandnessjøen, stops at Sørarnøy and corresponds with the local boat.

Bus no 200 from Bodø or Halsa (Meløy) is running along the Norwegian Scenic Route Helgelandskysten, FV17. Most departures correspond with bus routes to Inndyr and Sandhornøya, make sure to check the timetable first.
