6 tips for leaving no trace while in nature

Are you planning to go on a hike while traveling in Bodø & Salten? We love our beautiful nature, and we want to keep it that way. That’s where we need your help. Take the tips below with you, and you’ll see that the trip will be extra enjoyable – both for yourself and for those who come after you

1. Pay attention to people, animals and plants. Remember to keep your dog on a leash.

Show respect for those who live in the areas where you are traveling. Keep a distance to nesting birds and animals.

2. Take all waste home or use established waste bins

Bring a sealed bag with you for rubbish when you go out. This makes it easy to keep it tidy after you. Remember that leftover food and dog poo should also be taken home.

3. Go to the bathroom before leaving home, or use the adapted toilet

If the need to go to the toilet arises in a place without a toilet, go a distance away from where people travel and dig a hole in the ground. Do what you have to and close it. You take wet wipes, toilet paper, tissues etc. home in your rubbish bag.

4. Make a fire in prepared fireplaces

Let your bonfire leave as little traces as possible. Remember that you are only allowed to light a fire when you are sure that it cannot cause a fire.

5. Set up your tent in places that don’t disturb people and nature

It is allowed to pitch your tent more than 150 meters from inhabited houses and cabins in rural areas. However, some areas have a tent ban, so be sure to check before setting up your tent.

6. Say hello and ask for advice

People here are very friendly! Feel free to say hello, have a chat and ask if you have any questions!
