Bodø – Home to Bodø/Glimt
Welcome to Bodø – a small city just above the Arctic Circle and home to Bodø/Glimt,
the football team that has carried the name of our city onto the global stage and now plays in the Champions League.
It may sound unbelievable: a football club from a city of just 55,000 people competing in the UEFA Champions League.
But in Bodø, it makes perfect sense.

Bodø is located in Northern Norway, where life has never been ordinary.
Imagine a place where the sun never sets for weeks in summer, and never rises for months in winter.

A place where storms from the Atlantic can cut you off from the world overnight.
Where, for centuries, families depended on the sea for survival, knowing it could provide one day and take everything the next.
This constant exposure to extremes demanded resilience.
People had to be resourceful to make it through the dark winters, brave enough to face the ocean, and united enough to endure isolation.

Over generations, this shaped a distinct Arctic identity – one built on toughness, solidarity, and the ability to turn hardship into strength.

When Bodø/Glimt walk onto the pitch against Europe’s giants, they carry more than a football.
They carry the story of a city that refuses to be defined by geography, climate, or size.

From midnight sun to polar nights, from wartime ruins to a Champions League city.
Bodø is proof that greatness can grow in the most unlikely places.

It is the same mindset that helped Bodø rise again after the city was almost completely destroyed in World War II. And it is what gave us the courage to reinvent ourselves when the military airbase, the backbone of the local economy for decades, was closed in 2022.
Where others might have accepted decline, Bodø chose transformation. In 2024, the city held the title as European Capital of Culture, showcasing Arctic creativity to the world. At the same time, work began on building a brand-new airport and an entirely new urban district, reshaping Bodø once again for the future.
Bodø/Glimt doesn’t rely on star power or financial muscle. Their strength comes from teamwork, discipline, and the courage to play their own way. No matter who stands on the other side.

It is the perfect reflection of where they come from: a city that turns challenges into opportunities, that embraces change, and that dares to believe even the wildest dreams can come true north of the Arctic Circle.

Beyond Football
For many, Bodø is just a name discovered through our Champions League team. But behind the yellow shirts lies a city worth knowing.
A place where Arctic nature meets modern creativity. Where northern lights and midnight sun set the stage for culture, innovation, and adventure.
