Bodø Airport offers a range of national and international flights and is an easy gateway to Bodø and the surrounding region.

From Oslo, the flight to Bodø Airport takes only 80 minutes, bringing you right into the heart of the city. The airport is located just 1.2 km from the city centre, and many visitors choose to walk the short distance downtown.

Bodø Airport has several daily connections to Oslo (Gardermoen, OSL), Trondheim (Værnes), Bergen (Flesland), Tromsø, and Lofoten. SAS, Norwegian and Widerøe operate regular flights to and from Bodø airport. During selected periods, Finnair and Discover Airlines also operate routes to Bodø.

Bodø has direct flights to several major international airports with good connections to the rest of Europe and the world. The selection is particularly strong during the peak summer season.

Munich, Germany

In 2026, Discover Airlines will operate direct flights between Munich and Bodø from 8 May to 30 September, twice a week.

Frankfurt, Germany

In 2026, Discover Airlines will operate direct flights between Frankfurt and Bodø from 23 May to 5 September with weekly departures on Saturdays. In addition, the route will operate on Tuesdays from 16 June to 1 September.

Copenhagen, Denmark

In 2026, SAS will operate direct flights between Copenhagen and Bodø from 29 March to 24 October. There will be three weekly departures: Monday, Thursday and Sunday. From 20 June to 9 August, two additional weekly departures are planned: Tuesday and Thursday.

Stockholm, Sweden

In 2026, SAS will operate direct flights between Stockholm and Bodø from 5 June to 14 September. Departures will be Monday and Friday, with an additional Wednesday departure from 20 June to 9 August.

Helsinki, Finland

Finnair will operate flights between Helsinki and Bodø from 8 June to 18 August 2026, five days a week: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (two departures), and Saturday.

The Nordland Railway (Nordlandsbanen) is often described as one of the world’s most scenic railway journeys, stretching 730 km north from Trondheim to Bodø.

Bodø Station is the northern terminus of the Nordland Railway, located 729 km from Trondheim Central Station. The station is situated just over 400 metres from Bodø city centre. It serves long-distance trains to Trondheim, regional trains to Mo i Rana and Mosjøen, and local services to Fauske and Rognan.

Long-distance services
There are two daily long-distance train departures between Bodø and Trondheim: one daytime train and one overnight train. Travel times vary slightly. The daytime train takes around 9 hours and 50 minutes, while the overnight train is approximately 20 minutes faster, as it stops at fewer stations.

Regional services
There are two daily regional trains between Bodø and Mosjøen in each direction, in addition to the two daily long-distance services. The journey takes about 3 hours and 50 minutes, which is 15–30 minutes faster than the long-distance trains.

Local services
Local train services between Bodø, Fauske and Rognan, popularly known as the Salten commuter line, operate eight daily departures from Bodø to the neighbouring towns of Fauske and Rognan. Half of these terminate at Fauske Station.

The route — known as the Salten Line — runs from Bodø Station via the Mørkved district, the village of Tverlandet, and the community of Valnesfjord, before continuing to Fauske and Rognan.

Along the Hurtigruten coastal route, the ships call at Ørnes and Bodø in the Salten region before continuing on to Lofoten. 🚢

The northbound route stops in Ørnes in the morning and in Bodø around midday.

The Hurtigruten quay is located in Bodø city centre, opposite the railway station.

You can reach Bodø and the Salten region by car via the E6 highway or along the scenic Kystriksveien Coastal Route. 🚗

The distance from Trondheim to Bodø is about 700 km, a drive that takes approximately 10 hours.

European Route E6 is the longest and most important road in Nordland, running north–south through the county. National Road 80 connects Bodø with the E6 at Fauske. County Road 17, known as Kystriksveien (the Coastal Route), runs from Steinkjer through the Helgeland coast to Bodø, and parts of it are designated Norwegian Scenic Routes.

The 650 km-long Kystriksveien is a popular scenic alternative for visitors who are not in a hurry to reach their destination. Along the way, you can follow the dramatic coastal landscape and take small detours, for example to Svartisen glacier in Meløy, the historic church site in Gildeskål, or Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest tidal current.

Travelling by express boat along the Salten coast is both practical and a great experience in itself. 🚤

From the Passenger Terminal in Bodø city centre, you can quickly reach the beautiful archipelago in the region, as well as travel north or south along the mainland in Salten.

It is also a convenient way to continue your journey north to Lofoten and Vesterålen or south to Helgeland.

In 2021, Bodø became one of the first cities in the world to launch a fully electric bus network. All buses operating in the city centre are electric, allowing you to travel around Bodø in a more environmentally friendly way.

In addition to brand-new buses, most vehicles offer charging ports, seat belts, and spacious seating.

Regional buses are equipped with integrated child seats as well as ISOFIX, making them convenient for families travelling with children. They also have wheelchair lifts, allowing passengers with reduced mobility to travel in their own adapted wheelchair.

Bodø Taxi operates in the Bodø area and provides taxi services throughout the city and surrounding region.

The company is affiliated with Nordland Taxi, which handles booking services and related transport services.

You can travel to Lofoten by ferry, express boat, Hurtigruten, Havila Voyages or by plane.

If you are travelling by ferry, remember to register your vehicle before departure.

Bus routes 200 and 300 operate between Bodø city centre and Saltstraumen. 🚌

Saltstraumen is at its strongest four times a day, approximately every six hours. 🌊

You can also drive or cycle. Travel to Festvåg, where you can take the ferry to Misten/Kjerringøy (approx. 10 minutes).

Norway’s Right to Roam (allemannsretten) allows you to camp in nature, but there are a few important rules to follow. 🏕️

• You cannot camp on private property (in cultivated land) without permission from the landowner.
• Your tent must be at least 150 metres away from the nearest house or cabin.
• You may camp for up to two nights in the same place in uncultivated land (outfield areas) without asking the landowner for permission.

• The road toll points are fully automated.
• The license plate of vehicles driving without an AutoPASS tag is automatically registered. An invoice is sent by post to the vehicle owner without any additional fee. This also applies to foreign vehicles.

Beer and cider can be purchased in grocery stores between 09:00 and 20:00 (18:00 on Saturdays).
Wine, spirits, and stronger alcoholic beverages must be purchased at Vinmonopolet, Norway’s state-run liquor store.

In Bodø, you´ll find liqour stores at KOCH shopping center in the city center, at City Nord shopping center and Hundstadsenteret shopping center.

Most grocery stores are open between 07.00 – 23:00. Some stores are also open on Sundays.

In Bodø, the Midnight Sun officially occurs from 4 June to 8 July. But the sun gradually comes and disappears, so days before and after this period is also really beautiful and light with only minutes between sunset and sunrise.

The Northern Lights can be seen from early September until mid-April, depending on weather conditions and solar activity.
