Midnight sun

Experience the midnight sun in Bodø & Salten from June 4th to July 8th.

The midnight sun captivates us all, regardless of whether we were born and raised here or you are a visitor experiencing it for the first time.

It is hard to explain. It’s light all day and all night, but the sounds and atmosphere tell us when it’s nighttime. The animals and birds know it too. We call it “The infinite Nordland nights”. You simply have to experience it to understand!

North of the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn’t set during parts of the summer. Bodø lies just north of the Arctic Circle, giving us several weeks of continuous daylight every year.

Before and after the midnight sun period, the nights are still exceptionally bright. The sun dips just below the horizon before rising again, creating beautiful colours and a soft, golden light that can last through the night. Close to the midnight sun period, there can be only minutes between sunset and sunrise – so you can actually watch the sun set and rise again almost straight away.

From May and well into August, you can experience the long, light summer nights of Northern Norway.

Mountain hike in Bodø

Going for a hike late in the evening is one of our favourite ways to enjoy summer in Northern Norway. Starting a hike at 9 or 10 pm is not unusual, and the low midnight sun makes it well worth staying up for.

You don’t have to climb a mountain to enjoy the midnight sun. Find a beach, head out on the water or choose an activity that lets you make the most of the long, light summer nights.

Wood Hotel Bodo

Make the evening last a little longer. Enjoy dinner by the sea, find a sunny terrace or end the day with a drink while the midnight sun lights up the sky.
