Hike Description

Storjord is a good starting point for short and long trips. Here you can, for example, go to the climbing jungle, snugly located next to the arboretum (a collection of different types of trees). Or you can seek out waterfalls, heritage trails, suspension bridges, botanical rarities, countless barbecue areas and fishing lakes. You also have two national parks within easy reach. It is well signposted and several of the tours are suitable for wheelchair users and prams.

Storjord is a powerful river confluence in Saltdal, where the largest rivers in the municipality meet. Therefore, a large river plain has formed between the mighty mountains. Here, in the tallest pine forest, there is a wide range of activities for the whole family and the arrangements are adapted so that everyone has something to offer. Also know that this is one of the country’s driest areas. Even if the rain pours down in surrounding areas, the sun can shine here.

The hike is one of Salten Friluftsråds 55 captivating hikes in the region.

Getting to Storjordområdet

Follow the E6 to Saltdal tourist center and park here. Several of the tours in the area are well signposted. Some of the paths are suitable for wheelchairs.

From the car parking, it is approx. 200 m to the climbing jungle and the arboretum (collection of different types of trees). From here you can continue to follow the signs towards Kjemåfossen (round trip) or the forest ranger’s lodge (via suspension bridge). From Skogvokterboligen there is a nature trail past old animal graves (round trip). Kjemåfossen is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Northern Norway.
