Bøsanden beach
Bøsanden beach
Bøsanden is an 800-meter-long chalk-white beach with tall tufts of grass and sand dunes that often resemble Denmark or more southern regions. However, it is also surrounded by magnificent, legendary mountains. And right across the horizon, your eyes rest on the Lofoten Wall.
Hike Description
The beach has soft and fine sand that stretches out into the turquoise blue water. Both the beach and the water invite you to play on beautiful summer days, but even when the western weather gets rough, Bøsanden is an impressive sight. Sand, waves, and sea spray whip and break onto the shore. They blend with the air and offer a lively dance.
Large parts of Bøsanden are a nature reserve, so camping or making fires on the beach is not allowed. However, on each side of Bøsanden, there are two shelters (gapahuker) that make for great destinations throughout the year, and in the areas around the beach, you can set up camp. Remember that you must be at least 150 meters away from buildings.
This hike is one of Saltens Friluftsråd’s selected 55 forførende friluftsmål in the region.

Getting to Bøsanden
Bøsanden is located on Engeløya, and the easiest way to get there is by car or by bike in combination with the express boat to Bogøy. At the parking lot, there are toilets, showers, and a garbage container. It would be appreciated if you contribute some money for the operation through Vipps. The facility is operated voluntarily by the local residents.
By Boat and Bike
The express boat from Bodø to Bogøy (Nordlandsekspressen) takes about 2 hours, and has daily departures. Bicycles can be brought on the express boat. You can also take a bus from Holkestad junction on Bogøy to Bø. Note: The bus operates on a school schedule, so it only runs when the schools are open and not during the summer. The bus ride takes about 25 minutes.
By car
Drive to Engeløya in Steigen. From the Ålstad junction, drive about 15 km to the left. When you reach the village of Bø, drive through it and take the turnoff just before you reach the last farm in Bø, where the sign “Bøsanden” is located. The parking lot is quite large, but please park closely together as it gets crowded on a sunny day!
