Day Trip to Kjerringøy

Beautiful Kjerringøy is perfect for a day trip. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the stunning nature while filling your day with history and cultural activities.

Here is a list of what you shouldn’t miss

1. Kjerringøy Old Trading Post

Kjerringøy Old Trading Post is a unique cultural heritage site – a complete cultural environment frozen in time from the 19th century. It consists of 15 protected buildings with authentic interiors, beautifully located at Kjerringøy, offering a journey back in time. It takes you back to the era of the Nordland boats and trading ships, a time shaped by stockfish and cod liver oil.

During spring, you can wander among the old buildings as the museum doesn’t open its interiors until the summer season begins in June. However, even without access to the buildings, the surroundings provide a captivating glimpse into the rich history and heritage of Kjerringøy Handelssted.

2. Karl Erik Harr Museume

The museum opened in spring 2019 and features photo exhibitions showcasing coastal life in the north. Here, you can see pictures from Kjerringøy, Lofoten, Hamarøy and Helgeland. Perhaps you’ll even meet the painter who is still active, always creating art under the open sky. Their passion for their beloved region, Nordland, is always evident.

Zahlfjøsen was built by merchant Zahl in Kjerringøy between 1892 and 1894 when he operated the trading post. The barn was in regular use until the summer of 1995 but has now been converted into a gallery. Today, you can find the exhibition “Hamsun in Film and Pictures,” a boat-building area, and a library.

To visit the gallery outside the summer season, please make a reservation in advance by emailing zahlfjosen@gmail.com or calling 97102757.

4. Kjerringøy Quayside Hotel

For dinner, head to Kjerringøy Bryggehotell. With its large panoramic windows, you’ll have a special dining experience with stunning views of Karlsøyfjorden and the Lofoten Wall. During the summer season, you can enjoy your meal on the outdoor terrace. If you want to extend your stay and fully immerse yourself in the idyllic atmosphere of Kjerringøy, you can also book an overnight stay at the hotel.

5. Kjerringøy rorbusenter

If you drive all the way to Tårnvika at the outermost point of Kjerringøy, you will find this exciting place. It’s a charming and fun place for both young and old. Here you live close to the beach, sea, and mountains, with endless hiking opportunities.
