Fauske Bygdetun is a rich museum with skilled hosts who guide visitors through the permanent exhibitions, focusing on the life of fishing-farming families. Here, you can see a wonderful textile exhibition that includes everything from the worn and patched vest of the poor to the silk skirt of an official’s wife in the latest Paris fashion of the time.
There is also an exhibit about the famous healer Johannes Brateng from Leivset in Fauske, who was reputed to cure everything from back pain to appendicitis.
In the Red Barrack, there are changing seasonal exhibitions and a well-stocked museum shop.
The outdoor area offers opportunities for barbecuing and active play, and art enthusiasts will be drawn to Per Barclay’s contribution to the Skulpturlandskap Nordland.
Fauske Bygdetun is an excellent place for families, with activities for children every Wednesday at 12 PM throughout the summer.
