Historical walk on Jakobsbakken

Jakobsbakken in Sulitjelma is a cultural-historical gem in Salten in northern Norway. Here you will find remains from both mining and the Sami cultural heritage in the immediate vicinity.

Join us for a historical walk through the old mining town of Jakobsbakken in Sulitjelma, one of the best preserved mining communities in Norway. Jakobsbakken was from the beginning a Sami area, but from 1896 active mining was started here. Until 1968, when mining was shut down, Jakobsbakken was the place in Sulitjelma where the most ore was mined. We take you on a historical walk through the place as we tell you how the society up here in the mountain world was.
